Pristine and never ignited, the Protector MC40 model was ingeniously crafted and patented in 1939 specifically for the Manchester Collieries consortium. Its production commenced in 1940, featuring options of iron tops or stainless steel. The lamp incorporated a flat wick oil burner complemented by a high-tension spark ignition system. Notably, the cell and cage were ingeniously integrated into a singular unit, and an internal magnetic lock was cleverly positioned within the upper rim of the cage. It’s worth mentioning that this internal locking design encountered certain challenges stemming from soot accumulation, and a significant number of these locks appear to have been subsequently removed.
