G’day, and welcome to Old Flames, where we rekindle the lights of yesteryear that kept our miners safe. Enjoy the lamp collections and the stories, and learn what makes lamp collecting so addictive. You may just get hooked too.
What’s new
In November 2026 the website was rebuilt from the ground up. It’s faster and easier to read on a phone, and you can now:
- browse lamps by type on the Lamps page, and gear on Mining Gear
- look up a maker on Makers & Marks A–Z
- work out what you’ve got with Identify a Lamp
- see what lamps are asking and selling for in Market Watch and the price guide
- search the disasters register
Use the Bigger text button at the top if you’d like larger print, the Lamp room switch for a dark page, and the language menu to read the site in your own language.
How to contribute
Everything starts in the Old Flames Facebook group. Share your lamps, your stories and your questions there. With your permission, the best posts are written up here, always with your name on them. You can also reach us through the Contact page.
